Description of the Job

The VCU Institute for Drug and Alcohol Studies (IDAS) is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to conduct human-subject neuroimaging research (in projects directed by Dr. James Bjork) on the neurobiology of motivation and cognitive control in adolescents or adults who are at neurobehavioral for (or who currently have) substance use disorders. NIH-and industry-funded projects at IDAS utilize neuroimaging in each of: individual-difference studies in addicted populations, and longitudinal study of adolescent neurodevelopment, pharmacology challenge studies to study the roles of neurotransmitters in brain function, and clinical trials of pharmacotherapies for addiction.

 

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD or MD degree with a strong background in psychology, biological psychiatry, psychopharmacology or neuroscience, and must also be verbally fluent in English for structured interviews of research participants.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in analysis of fMRI time series data with resting-state or task-elicited activations using neuroimage analysis software (e.g. AFNI, SPM, FSL, CONN, GIFT) is preferred. Especially sought are candidates with expertise in computational modeling of task-fMRI data.
