AUT's 2018 Early Career Academic Programme offers Māori and/or Pacific scholars permanent, full-time appointments as research-active lecturers within a dedicated programme support network. The University is proactively engaged in growing the number of Maori and Pacific academics at AUT and is dedicated to increasing the participation and success of Māori and Pacific peoples across all academic disciplines.

 

Māori and Pacific academics are needed in Social Sciences and Psychology in particular, to contribute to and to facilitate the generation of knowledge grounded in the needs and aspirations of Māori and Pacific communities in Aotearoa. Psychology is a growth disciplinary area in the School and the successful recruitment of a Māori or Pacific academic would allow the Psychology team to provide a Māori and/or Pacific perspective on contemporary issues in our discipline, supporting the high rate of enrolment of Māori and Pacific students.

 

The role: With the continued increase in students in our BA Psychology major, and the introduction of a new post-graduate programme in psychology, we are seeking a permanent full-time early career lecturer to provide teaching and undertake research as part of a team of Psychology lecturers in the School of Social Sciences and Public Policy. The appointee will assume responsibility for the co-ordination and delivery of psychology papers offered by the School. Applicants may have some tertiary teaching experience, but will not already have any permanent, full time academic teaching experience in a university. Applicants will be active researchers in the areas of social and/or developmental psychology.

 

Applicants are sought with the following teaching and research interests:

  • Teaching Interests: research methods; quantitative and qualitative analyses; social psychology; developmental psychology
  • Research Interests: social psychology; social cognition; intergroup relations; developmental psychology

 

Important eligibility criteria: 

  • This must be your first full-time, permanent academic teaching position in a university
  • You must have a completed PhD, or will have submitted your completed thesis for examination by 31 December 2017
  • You will be able to demonstrate a strong interest in teaching as well as research
  • Preference will be given to candidates who identify as either Māori or Pacific, and can demonstrate a commitment to promoting the educational advancement of Māori or Pacific youth
  • You must be able to start between 1 January - 26 February 2018
