DESCRIPTION

The Department of Psychiatry within the School of Medicine at UC San Diego (http://psychiatry.ucsd.edu/Pages/default.aspx) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body.

The UCSD Department of Psychiatry seeks to recruit basic scientists, clinical scientists, and translational scientists whose work illuminates the nature, mechanisms, and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. The Department wishes to attract basic scientists who are exploring the fundamental processes underlying common components of cognitive, mood, temperamental, and motivational disturbances in neuropsychiatric conditions. For example, investigators may be exploring the molecular, cellular, and neural network connectivity bases of learning and memory, attentional and executive processes, and their genetic regulation. Additional examples of areas of basic science and translational interest would include, but are not limited to exploration of signaling pathways in the central nervous system that have received less attention but may be important in understanding the bases and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders, such as the endocannabinoid system. Translational research could embrace areas such as basic studies on circadian rhythms, as well as studies on sleep disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, addictive disorders, neurocognitive disorders, and their treatment, including their genetic regulation.

To be considered for a Research Scientist position (non-instructional), entry-level candidates will need to demonstrate that their research trajectories are likely to position them to become independent scientist in the few years after appointment, and mid-senior level candidates will be expected to have a robust track record of independent peer-review research. MDs, PhDs, or the equivalent, is required. For consideration, please apply via https://apol-recruit.ucsd.edu/apply/JPF01298

The UCSD Department of Psychiatry seeks to recruit and retain a diverse workforce as a reflection of our strong commitment to the twin goals of achievement of excellence and diversity among our faculty and staff. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to maintain the highest standards of scholarship and professional activities and to develop a climate that supports equality and diversity.

Applications must include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, the names and contact information of three to five referees, and a personal statement summarizing past or potential contributions to diversity (see http://facultyequity.ucsd.edu/Faculty-Applicant-C2D-Info.asp for further information). Candidates may also submit a statement of scholarly interests and accomplishments, and/or a statement of interest in or evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., teaching evaluations). Review of applications will begin on February 20, 2017, and will continue until the position is filled. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.

The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age or protected veteran status.
