DESCRIPTION

 

The Department of Neurosciences at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) (http://neurosciences.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body and is recruiting for a Ladder Rank (tenure-track) faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to be filled by a candidate with demonstrated scientific expertise in neurobiology, epidemiology, neuroimaging, biomarkers, or behavioral neurology/cognitive neurosciences of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an extramurally funded research program at the cutting edge of Alzheimer's disease research and to provide leadership in neuroscience related to neurodegenerative diseases. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with a large group of scientists and clinicians through the NIH-funded Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) and the Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative study (ADCS) in the UCSD Department of Neurosciences. UCSD Neurosciences is a leader in basic and clinical research into the cause, effects, and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related neurodegenerative disorders, a tradition made possible by the vision and collaborative spirit of a large and diverse body of neuroscientists and strong partnerships with scientists from the Salk Institute, The Scripps Research Institute, and the Sanford-Burnham Institute.

 

Teaching and mentorship opportunities will be available in the School of Medicine and in various Graduate Programs, including the highly-rated UCSD Graduate Program in Neurosciences.

 

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree or equivalent. Candidates with an M.D. degree must be eligible for a California medical license, have completed Neurology or Geriatric Medicine training, and be Board eligible or Board certified in Neurology or Geriatric Medicine. Candidates with an M.D. degree should have completed Fellowship training in Alzheimer’s disease or a related specialty, or have a track record of expertise in the area.

 

Appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level. Series will include 100% Ladder Rank or 50% Ladder Rank and 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales. Startup funding will be available.
